WINEMAKER’S VILLAGE UPDATE: Q & A WITH SANTIAGO ACHAVAL

Why did you decide to join this project and set your winery here?

A vision. A feeling. An urge. Something different. A sense of excitement and energy. Friendship. Admiration.

What is your timeline for building and opening your winery?

We will be open for Harvest 2015.

What is your vision for tourism here?

I’m very excited about the location. Uco Valley tourism is growing tremendously, but is still is a bit held back by lack of good hotels and great distances between wineries. Winemaker’s Village, The Vines Resort & Spa and other high-end hotels are helping to address these issues. Plus, the community of Winemaker’s Village clearly provides a unique environment for a whole day of tasting, eliminating the distance issue altogether.

For my winery specifically, I’m very hopeful that the unique proposition will have it receiving more than its share of the traffic!

What wines will you be producing?

We will be producing Burgundy, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines based on both Pinot and Chardonnay. The nature of these wines is entirely different from my other wines. .

How will the wines be influenced by your other projects at Achaval Ferrer and The Vines’ Private Vineyards?

Extreme quality is the backbone of all these projects and will continue to be the driver for all I do.
