Pairing Not-So-Traditional Argentine Wines With a Traditional Argentine Holiday

Are you looking for some inspiration for a perfectly paired Thanksgiving Day food & wine menu? Our sommelier, Martin Krawczyk -recently ranked #9 in Argentina - has pulled together some suggested pairings for Argentina's succulent Las Perdices wines.

This list includes a Pinot Noir - always a winning choice for Turkey Day - but also some less traditional pairings, including, you guessed it, a Malbec. There are lots of great other alternatives from Argentina too, including Albarińo (yes, really) among other wines you might not know about. Thanksgiving foods tend to be somewhere between medium and full bodied, so the majority of your wines should too. So why not use this day to explore a variety of not so traditional, but fabulous, wines in the process. 

So without further adieu, here are our suggested wines and their ideal Thanksgiving Day pairings:

Deep-Fried Turkey: Las Perdices Sauvignon Blanc

Very subtle color, intense aromas of passion fruit, mango, and pink grapefruit, with subtle mineral notes. Good attack on the palate, well balanced acidity, and a long finish, highlighting notes of tropical fruit.

Corn Pudding: Las Perdices Albariño

The complexity of this wines fluctuates between fruity notes (peach, apple and citrics), floral (jasmines and white flowers) and herbs. Unctuous to the mouth, full-bodied, with a velvety fresh feeling ending in a complex and refreshing sensation.

Spiced Grilled Turkey Breast: Las Perdices Reserva Malbec 2012

Aromas of red fruits and raspberries, accompanied by notes of vanilla and coffee from its oak aging. Smooth on the palate, well-balanced, with flavors of plums, gooseberries, red fruits, violets, chocolate, and coffee. Smooth, ripe tannins. Long, pleasant finish. 

Sweet Potato Pecan Pie: Las Perdices Pinot Noir

A dark plum color with brilliant highlights. Lovely and subtle with a delicate nose of strawberry jam, sweet red fruits and a light dusting of earth – hints of red roses in summer. Lively in the mouth with fresh acid and pepper notes and full of ripe fruit through the finish. 

Grilled Corn on the Cob with Roasted Garlic and Herbs: Las Perdices Don Juan

Don Juan welcomes your senses from the very beginning. The intense ruby color with purple edges is followed by a complexity of aromas and flavors: berries, spices, violets, and dried plums give way to the tobacco and vanilla notes. This explosion of flavors lingers with a smooth, well-balanced structure and ripe tannins. 

Pumpkin Chiffon Pie: Las Perdices Extra Brut

Smooth golden yellow color with shiny highlights. Persistent foam, delicate and fine bubbles. Aromas of honey, almonds, toasted bread and fruit.  

Smooth on the palate, good acidity, elegance and length of fruit. Good freshness and complexity.
