WHERE TO TASTE WINE
Maipú - Domaine St. Diego
Overview:
With a spectacular view of the Andean foothills, Domaine St. Diego is one of the most picturesque bodegas in the Maipú region. As you enter the 3.5-hectare vineyard you immediately are faced with one of the few terraced vineyards in the region. As you stroll through the vineyard on a self guided tour you can take a few moments to read the poetry posted throughout the property or just settle on one of the handmade benches to take in the view. Before you leave the property you will have the chance to taste the wines with famed Mendocino oenologist Angel Mendoza or his son Lucas.
The Mendozas have focused their attention on small harvests from only the best vines, resulting in smooth, well-balanced reds. Domaine St. Diego also uses the labor-intensive Champenoise method (hand turning each bottle during the second fermentation) to produce high quality sparkling wines. During the spring and summer months, when the terraced fields are in bloom, the scenery at the bodega is as breathtaking as the wine.
