B E H I N D T H E V I N E S
Greetings! We hope this month's update finds you well and enjoying summer with friends, family and, of course, Argentine wines. It's hard to top last month's news about the expansion of our Private Vineyard Estates, but we do have a few newsworthy items to share with you this month…
SOLD OUT FOR PLANTING IN 2008
This month's biggest news is that all 141 acres of Private Vineyard Estates that we made available for sale last year and planting in 2008 have been fully committed to new owners from around the globe.
We are now busy ripping and clearing the land and installing the posts, wires and irrigation systems for these vineyards. The vines from our nursery suppliers in Europe and Argentina have just arrived. Given this year's mild winter, especially compared to last year's record-breaking cold, it is likely we will begin planting in September, several weeks earlier than we planted last year.
LOOKING FORWARD TO 2009
We will release the first vineyards for planting in 2009 in early September, just a few weeks from now. Next month's update will have more information and details about these latest Private Vineyard Estates to be offered.
PREVIEW OF AUTUMN'S ACEQUIA WINE CLUBS
The wines for this fall's Acequia and Acequia Reserva wine clubs will be making their way to club members in mid-September. The Acequia club includes the 2006 Las Loicas Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, an exceptional certified organic wine, while The Acequia Reserva club features the 2006 Flechas de los Andes Gran Reserva Malbec that is part of Michel Rolland's Clos de los Siete project in the Uco Valley. These fall club selections also present other top notch and almost impossible-to-come-by wines.
It's not too late to join to receive these wonderful wines. Please visit www.vinesofmendoza.com or contact Aaron Espstein who manages the Acequia Wine Clubs at aaron@vinesofmendoza.com or 707.320.2699. He's happy to answer any questions you may have and point you in the right direction even though you can't go wrong with either or both memberships.
PREPARING FOR BUSY SEASON
Every August we close our tasting room in downtown Mendoza for two weeks to conduct staff training and to prepare for the busy and exciting tourism season that will last through May. This August, we are looking forward to our most robust training program yet, designed to make sure our staff's knowledge about Argentine wines and service stays at the forefront so that each and every visitor to our tasting room experiences a memorable, informative and fun time.
Tourism to Argentina, and Mendoza in particular, increased significantly last year. We are anticipating that the coming season will be our busiest ever and hope to see you and your friends here soon be it for the first time or a repeat visit.
Until then, we hope you are basking in the dog days of summer up north.
Saludos,
Michael Evans & Pablo Gimenez Riili
