El Palenque is where Mendocinos come to nibble, sip and be seen (you also find the staff of Vines of Mendoza at this spot on a regular basis). A warm, festive restaurant-cum-bar, it specializes in traditional food with a modern twist. The chancho con premio (pork stuffed with fontina cheese and sun-dried tomatoes), cantimpalo empanadas (with cheese and spicy local sausage), and mushroom salad are all excellent, and the papas fritas (French Fries) set a new standard for an old stand-by. The wine list features moderately priced options from Mendoza's many bodegas.
