Waouh, such a great prunning course. As you mentionned my french university I wanted to add a comment about prunning and prunning in Argentina.

First, it's true, winter period show us, agronomist, a lot about the vines. She tell you a lot, and you have to know how to read her if you want to keep her alive for longtimes.

Prunning in Argentina is very "academic" which is good because that avoid big concerns as I can see in France now for exemple.

The charge is directely assess from the prunning, You got a strong idea about your potential yield.

An exemple: It's important to never keep more than 2 buds per spurs because, as you may be know, grapevine is an "acrotonic" which means she mainly let growth the high posisioned buds in a stem. if you keep more buds, you'll waste energy in your plant, buds could start to growth bud never they could have a great development to give good quality grape. That is true for almost all the varieties, almost because some varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon for exemple need long spurs to get more buds and get more chance to produce great grape. First bud are basically sterile that why...

It was just an exemple to confirm the idea that prunning period is as important as vegetative period, may be more important.

Prunning period is also tricky in almost all the wine country because of the rain during winter which could allow to fungus disease to colonize the plant by pruned wound. In US or in France for exemple, there are a big fungi issue, which make big damage in the vineyard. Pruning is the first responsable. But in Argentina, in Mendoza especialy, with a dry desert climate, even if we could see snow like this year, the dryness of the climate avoid this kind of problem.

That why Mendoza is one of the best place to produce vines, grapes... wines
