Celebrate Halloween with The Vines of Mendoza, and Hallowine!

We here at The Vines are take every opportunity to think ahead to 2010 when we will begin producing our own wine, and that of our Private Vineyard Estate Owners. Here are the results of today’s brainstorming session of seasonally appropriate labeling!

1884 - Long before Orwell, but a VERY good year!

As anybody reading this will know by now, those of us here at The Vines of Mendoza like wine and food - a lot. We are always exploring the ever-changing culinary scene in Mendoza (and Buenos Aires, when we can), and have worked to put our recommendations in written form in our “Insider’s Guide to Mendoza” (with a Buenos Aires guide coming soon!)

The following excerpt is from a travel blog written by Sharyn and Mike, who on a recent visit to Mendoza followed our advice and went to our favorite restaurant in town - 1884 Francis Mallman. Their article includes our own review, so I’ll leave it in their words!

1884 . . . it was a very good year.

Our internet connection of late has been rather spotty so our posts are a bit delayed.  But here is another feeding frenzy worth hearing about.

The one thing to do that seemed to be a universal suggestion from everyone I spoke to, every Mendoza site I perused and book I read, was a visit to THE restaurant in Mendoza, 1884 Francis Mallmann.  Quoting The Vines of Mendoza - Our Insider’s Guide to Mendoza Issue No. 4, “Housed in a Spanish-style building inside the Bodega Escorihuela, 1884 is the culinary domain of chef-luminary Francis Mallmann, who creates exquisite dishes with seasonal Patagonian ingredients.  Opt for a coveted garden table and glimpse the traditional meats and empanadas, in the courtyard’s wood-fire oven.  Recently voted the 7th best restaurant in the world by Restaurant Magazine.”

Ok, now our expections weren’t too high!! ;-)
